Lymphedema Therapy – What Are The Benefits?

Lymphedema Therapy – What Are The Benefits?

What is Lymphedema and the treatment therapy used to help?

Lymphedema is a condition that results in the abnormal accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the body, primarily in the lymph nodes, which are found in the neck, axilla (underarm), chest, abdomen, and groin.  There is no cure for lymphedema, but Certified Lymphedema Therapists (CLT) can help by focusing on reducing swelling and preventing complications. With specialized Lymphedema Therapy, CLTs use their in-depth understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, and use a wide range of therapeutic techniques to help patients manage their condition.

What causes Lymphedema?

Lymphedema can be caused by any medical condition that causes abnormal development, damage of the lymphatic system and/or an increase in fluid in the body tissues can all lead to lymphedema. Medical conditions that lead to Lymphedema surgery, radiation therapy, or an injury.

What are the benefits of Lymphedema Therapy?

Lymphedema Therapy techniques are designed to help patients achieve long-term relief from the discomfort associated with the lymphedema condition. This type of therapy involves a variety of techniques, including manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, and skin care management. By combining these techniques, patients can experience reduced swelling, improved circulation, and decreased pain. Patients can also benefit from the psychological effects of lymphedema therapy such as feeling empowered and improved self-confidence. By working with a qualified CLT professional and following through with tailored Lymphedema Therapy treatments, patients can find success in managing their condition and achieving long-term relief.
